Itinerary
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City
Wake up and be ready to meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel. We'll head out by car or van to the (in)famous Cu Chi Tunnels, a network of tunnels which stretched over 200 km to the Cambodian border and became legendary during the 1960s. They were built over 25 years, starting in 1948 during the Vietnamese French war, and served as a means of communication between villages and to help the Vietnamese evade scouting French soldiers. The Cu Chi Tunnels later played a vital part in the Vietnamese American War because they allowed the Viet Cong to control a large rural area just 30 to 40 km away from Ho Chi Minh City (known at that time as Sai Gon). The network, parts of which were several levels deep, consisted of trap doors, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers, and kitchens. The tunnels are between half and one meter wide, just enough for a person to crawl along, which will give you a glimpse of what underground life was like during the war.
Around noon, we'll back to Ho Chi Minh City and drop you off at your hotel.
